Texas ranks as the nation’s No. 1 producer of hay. Farmers across the state harvested more than 4.3 million acres of hay in 2022, including 95,000 acres of alfalfa. The state produced a total of more than 7.3 million tons of the commodity that year, including nearly 400,000 tons of alfalfa.
